Stopped for lunch. We were the only people in the bar area. We were served pretty quickly by the bar tender taking our order. Then we waited at least 30 min to get our food. The bar tender was having a heated conversation with another employee behind the bar using a lot of profanity and loud enough so we could hear. She finally got our food, when putting it down spilled half the fries off the plate, left and never came back to the table. We got our own refill of coffee. Then had to wait to get the check. Very unprofessional. We will not be returning. Horrible service.
We stopped to eat dinner here. The service was good but I felt the beef tips were just average. The stuffed mushroom appetizer was very good. Lodge type decor with fireplace, bar and stuffed moose head on display.
We had lunch here in a rustic setting with great views of Moosehead Lake. I had an excellent cheeseburger with onion rings. Our whole party enjoyed lunch. Bonus: wander the grounds and go out on the dock.
My family and I shared cabin 6, described as "rustic". The cabin smelled of methane gas, the cabin was dark, the shower stall falling apart, and the light in the bathroom was full of bugs. Initially the heater in the bedroom didn't work and we didn't want to light the heater stove with the methane. A repair person told us the smell was mild, nothing to worry about, and turned on the pilot to the heater which made the smell 3 times worse! We couldn't stand to eat with the smell. We moved to cabin 8 for the last night, much better. We overheard the new tenants in 6 also complaining of the smell. When I complained when we left we were told the person could do nothing for us. I asked for the owner to call me, of course no one contacted me. After reading others comments I forgot to say the drinking water smelled awful. I gagged too when brushing my teeth. We had to buy drinking water. The comment at the front desk was this was the water in the town, Not the case!
We had a fabulous getaway weekend at the Birches! It is such a special place. Peaceful, relaxing and so much fun! We took long walks, enjoyed the hot tub outside, and relaxed in the bar. The restaurant service was over the top and the food was excellent from breakfast thru dinner. I especially liked hanging out in the Lodge by the fire playing games with friends while laughing our heads off. Highly recommend it!!!
